Internship & Co-op Opportunities
Students have many opportunities to gain work experience and to connect with potential employers. UNC Charlotte offers a variety of experiential learning programs in the form of internships, co-ops, 49erships, international internships, and on-campus positions. There are also research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.
Co-Op
The most intensive type of experiential learning. Students are required to commit three semesters of paid, full-time work while working towards degree completion. Typically, students extend their programs of study by one or two semesters while completing the full-time co-op. Students who complete a co-op program can use their hours accumulated towards hours needed to earn a professional engineering license (P.E.). Students graduate with a B.S. degree in Engineering and professional experience that can bolster the resume and get a job. Some organizations use this program to recruit entry-level employees and it can be a great way to land a full-time job once the degree is earned. The co-op program is only available to undergraduate students. Co-ops are administered by the engineering department in coordination with the University Career Center.
Internship
Programs are typically run for one semester or through the summer and provide students with an opportunity to gain academic credit and real-world experience.
The Belk College of Business and Lee College of Engineering participate in the experiential learning program. Refer to each college for co-op and internship requirements.
