Opportunities in Utility Asset Management

Utilities deliver power with exceptionally high reliability, with most customers experiencing fewer than 2 hours of interruptions each year. This requires managing the health of millions of physical assets spread across large geographic areas and exposed to a vast array of environmental conditions. These assets include power plants, substations, transmission lines, timber poles, transformers, power meters and solar farms. Utilities can only perform these tasks with a vast array of experts who understand structures, electromagnetics, materials science, data science and telecommunications. Today, utilities are even adopting advanced techniques using AI and digital twins to better predict health in real time. This session will include experts who will describe the career opportunities in this important field, which will require many new engineers over the next decade.

Opportunities in Grid Tech Manufacturing

The global energy transition has moved decisively from a software optimization phase to a massive, hardware-driven manufacturing supercycle. Driven by the explosive power demands of AI data centers and economy-wide electrification, the central challenge of the grid is no longer just management—it is physically producing enough critical equipment to keep the lights on. This panel dives into Opportunities in Grid Tech Manufacturing, exploring how advanced automation, robotics and digital twin factories are revolutionizing the production of high-voltage transformers, switchgear and turbines. Industry leaders will discuss the massive engineering efforts behind reshoring critical supply chains, developing eco-friendly hardware alternatives and how young engineers can step directly onto the front lines of building the physical backbone of the future grid.
